Greetings, Salutations & SAWCE!

Once again we'll be raising moneys for the animals in 2011 for the 5th annual Raglan Medieval festival!

We'll be looking to renew our yearly sponsorship papers for our two adopted animals which we adopted in 2009. They are (of course) Elish the Girafe who resides at the ZSL ZOO in the UK and Our Malayan Tapir (FLUFFY) who lives at the Sedgewick Zoo in Kansas, US.

In addition to raising money to cover the costs of caring for our two adoptees, as always we'll also be raising moneys to donate to two other animal charities that the community of Raglan Shire will vote on and choose.

Below is the list of animal based charities to choose from.
Please pick ONE organization from each category.
One category is general animal care and the other is for specific animal care.
Feel free to click the links and go to each web site for more information.
We'll tally the votes after Medieval Festival and announce the winners.

Our goal for fundraising this year is at least $100,000 L so please donate generously if you can and let everyone else know as well!  You can donate at the Wishing Well at the Medieval Square or by using the stockades (Put someone in the stocks today!!) on The Raglan Shire Sim.

Again please reply to this thread with your pick from EACH category below!
Help keep our animals happy!

Category one: General Animal Organizations:

http://www.pawsweb.org/index.html - (Last Years Winner) Since 1984, The Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has been at the forefront of efforts to rescue and provide appropriate, humane sanctuary for animals who have been the victims of the exotic and performing animal trades. PAWS investigates reports of abused performing and exotic animals, documents cruelty and assists in investigations and prosecutions by regulatory agencies to alleviate the suffering of captive wildlife.

http://www.aspca.org/ - History: This animal protection organization was the first of its kind, established in 1866. What they do: The organization’s focus is preventing cruelty to animals, but they also organize pet adoptions, work with local shelters and offer educational services to help people better care for their animals.

http://www.oneworldwildlife.org/ - History: With the slogan, “We share one earth, saving them is saving ourselves,” One World Wildlife is a newer organization devoted to saving the world’s animals, include those living in our local habitats. What they do: The organization works to save animals from dangerous situations and to protect their natural ecosystems.

http://www.wspa-international.org/ - WSPA’s vision is of a world where animal welfare matters, and animal cruelty ends. WSPA has been promoting animal welfare for more than 25 years. Our work is concentrated in regions of the world where few, if any, measures exist to protect animals.

http://fundforanimals.org - The Fund for Animals was founded in 1967 by prominent author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory. For 37 years, The Fund has spearheaded some of the most significant events in the history of the animal protection movement by employing hard-hitting advocacy campaigns and operating world-famous animal care facilities like the Black Beauty Ranch.

http://www.bestfriends.org/ - Best Friends Animal Society is guided by a simple philosophy: kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us.

http://www.seashepherd.org/ - Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world's oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

Category Two - Individual Animal Charities:

http://www.batworld.org/main/main.html - Bat World Sanctuary is on the front line to end the abuse and destruction of bats. We are recognized as the world’s leader in bat care standards and cutting-edge rehabilitation treatments, and we created specific guidelines for excellence in bat education programs that are used worldwide.

http://www.adopt-a-rabbit.org/ - What We Do: Our non-profit sanctuary for rabbits is located in beautiful Simpsonville, South Carolina on thirty wonderful acres.  Health care is provided in the light and airy Bunny Health Care Building. We recently expanded the health care building to accomodate the ever increasing number of senior rabbits that we care for.

http://www.otter.org/ - The International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF) is one of the world's leading otter charities. In the UK IOSF is the only charity solely dedicated to the conservation, protection and care of otters based on 20 years of scientific research in the UK and around the world.

http://www.elephants.com/ - (Last Years Winners)The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee, is the nation's largest natural-habitat refuge developed specifically to meet the needs of endangered African and Asian elephants.

http://www.tigerawareness.co.uk/ - Tiger Awareness was formed in 1998 to give the public more awareness on the plight of the tiger. We are a voluntary non-profit making charity and give free talks to schools, the public, and other organisations. All donations and funds raised go towards tiger projects. We work in India at present which is where there are approximately 50% of the world’s wild tigers.

Wow!  Lots of good choices, all of them are fab and will do good things for the little critters.

I vote for Best Friends Animal Santuary - cuz they're sorta neighbors and I've seen them do good stuff - no kill shelter, take in lots of sick critters, etc.  They're good peeps.

And I also vote for tigers. We need more gers.

My picks
Category one: General Animal Organizations:
http://www.bestfriends.org/ - Best Friends Animal Society is guided by a simple philosophy: kindness to animals builds a better world for all of us.

Category Two - Individual Animal Charities:
http://www.otter.org/ - The International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF) is one of the world's leading otter charities. In the UK IOSF is the only charity solely dedicated to the conservation, protection and care of otters based on 20 years of scientific research in the UK and around the world.

Thank you to all the tiny Raglan community for doing this  Kiss
