I'll reserve my opinions, and stick to the facts here.  Everyone else, please pitch in!

Some keyboard shortcuts may not (and some simply will not) work until you've enabled the menu they appear on.

How-to:
Turn on Advanced Menu: Ctl-Alt-D      < You will want these two menus on. They contain commonly
Turn on Developers Menu: Ctl-Alt-Q    < used menu items, which are now ONLY accessible here.

Things that have moved to the Advanced Menu:

Search (Ctl-F)
Image Upload (Ctl-U) (Also available from the Inventory)
Stop Animating Me
Fly (Home)
Always Run (Ctl-R)
Mouselook (M)
Snapshot To Disk (ctl-`)
Reset Camera/View (Esc)
Build tools (now on Advanced as well as Build menus)
Zoom In/Default/Out (Ctl-0/Ctl-9/Ctl-8)

LL-approved keyboard shortcuts can be found here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewer_2_Quick_Start_Guide/Appendix_-_Keyboard_Shortcuts
and the Quick Start Guide can be found here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Viewer_2_Quick_Start_Guide/Interface_overview
And finally, you can download the new viewer here (you will need to log into the website):

I grabbed it pretty early on yesterday. The only way I could describe it is being asked to drive a car without using your hands and feet. The natural mechanics that you've become used to are almost redundant; I think it might be a re-education for some longer standing SL residents to get to grips with, I dunno. Will for me.

I'll give it another go when I have more time and patience, but I did manage to paste YouTube onto the side of a prim and browse around that website in-world - that was pretty crazy!

My single biggest gripe is the lack of ctl-T (chat) functionality.  I don't want some little icon sitting down there taking up space.  That's just obnoxious.  There's too much I don't like about it, and far too little that I do like (the one like: It doesn't crash and burn when I get within draw distance of the Tiny, Inc Barn. Never have figured that one out.)

Emerald is not that crashy either, as for SL 2.0, I will wait until it hits RC1 or higher, there is an Emerald version, or LL forces me to update! Wink

Early release viewers raise my crash rate too much on the poorly built, overloaded, piece of junk my college calls a network; So for now I will stick with viewers that are very stable instead of running too many new things at once. Cool

Have only tried it an hour at work, but went through the most of it and found it quite nice and easy. My biggest concern is how it will handle tons of chat and lots of IMs, but so far I'm very positive.

I tried Beta the first night. Loved the graphics, finally had decent graphics out of Second Life. By the end of the evening the first bug showed up.  Couldn't email photos to Snapzilla. Had error messages popping up about server problems.  It seems that not all of Emerald had gotten removed and I also ran into the server 1.36 bug that there is a jira on.  Finally got that straightened out last night and went back to SL viewer on my desktop and had a fresh Snowglobe on netbook. After multiple registry cleans and searches of several hours.  Today a new bug has emerged. It seems if you run the beta and then go back to any other viewer it leaves the Custom Outfit folder near the top of your inventory. IT CANNOT BE REMOVED.  A jira has been filed (VWR-17038) and there has been a response from Linden Lab. Very simply it cannot be removed.  I voted for the jira anyway.  I guess my only advice is that you please do not run the Viewer 2.0.  There is a lot of potential there and it will happen sooner or later and I loved the graphics definition, but for now I would say don't touch it!
My mistake to try early.

Eh. won't that folder be created anyway if you run it later? It's a new system folder (like library, gestures, clothing etc) as I understand it?

A new application shouldn't be dumping new information (even if it is just a system folder) into an existing application.

I tried it for the first time last night and played around and actually think it's pretty good. Like Chaff says its a bit of an education having been so used to the other one for so long but it does have some pretty cool features. Not sure I'll be using it full time for the moment though.
