I like to try and take time out to actually show new tinies around; spend 5 or 10 minutes with someone you don't know and it can make the world of difference to them. I'm proud of the fact that I have personally lead new tinies to different places - I do actually have a welcome note of my own that I've been giving out for months. I hope that that time I have spent with people has given them enough confidence to return and participate in stuff.

If we all start taking the time out to spend more time with the people than having our noses stuck in scripts or whatnot, then everyone will benefit and we can finally throw the mackerel back in the sea where they belong and not round the back of someone's head, where they should never have been in the first place.

First impressions count and last. Attacking people in chat is not a first impression I'd like to leave on anyone.

Allow me to seize on something salient I think: some folk have excellently noted that they handle things in IM. Might I suggest this be made a policy/part of the charter? Because I think a factor in rebuked tinies not returning could be the public humiliation factor of it happening in chat (again, I refer to the non-Awen-involved incident I witnessed). Nobody likes the sensation of being shamed for a rule they might have missed.

And I must agree with Chaff that first impressions count. These new tinies are potentially our friends, neighbors, customers, what-not. It's not that I thoroughly disagree with the charter (although I would do it slightly differently to be honest), I must return to my concern about enforcement. That is my main concern. I really worry about mob-rule -- just anyone yelling at a newb just because they have Charter at hand...well I don't want to see that. It makes rhino cry. And we make a lot of wet, BTW.  Grin

Not quite sure about adding it to the charter. I don't like the idea of every tiny moderating chat. If someone makes the honest mistake of posting something out of charter, I don't wanna see them all of the sudden swamped in IM's about the charter.

I've added to REAG that they should respond in IM, and I trust they will do so. What do you think?

Thanks for the charter, Catten.  I think it covers the issues and is simple and clear.  I am completely happy to leave chat moderation in the paws of the Rangers.  I never desired a charter so I could wield it against another tiny, whether new or old.  Not to mention, I have no desire to see Bith cry.  And I'm fine with Awen keeping her mackerel at hand since I always know where to go when I need to grab a snack.   Wink

I like Catten's idea. And I think it will mean no tiny rhiny tears! Just for the record, all misunderstandings have been sorted out, and I'll try to be more clear in future postings so it doesn't happen again. I take away from this discussion one thing: I love Raglan!!! It very VERY important to me. Maybe even time to start deleting non-used biggie-stuffs LOL. HAPPY WOOTMAS!!
