So there I was standing in line to have my paw read by the amazing Ms Greenwood the other day, and i got chatting to the big Z bunneh, about posibly turning our tune stream into a "full time" radio station.

Now this will obviously take a little while to work out all the logistics of it, but my question to you is whether or not you currently listen to the music player in world, or if we had live presenters on would you be more likely to listen while your going about your day and activities in the shire cluster?

If ther was a significant demand from listeners then there would be opportunities to run adverts for your stores, give away stuff and swag in competitions and interview people from around the grid (including a couple of dem Linden folken to answer our tiny questions) etc. Generally, it will be similar to other commercial radio stations that you hear now...only better!! and possibly "on a stick"  Shocked

So for now I would just like to get an idea of how many potential listeners we would have.   Whistle

Of course all the usual regular stuff will be staying...this will be in addition to the current live stuff we have on at the moment.

So lemme nose what you thinks please.....

It's a great idea; but I do wonder logistically how it would work. And financially too...

I love listening to when Zayn does the mc for stuff. it really adds a personal touch.  Unfortunatly when the music stream is on and i play it i crash. I have no idea why.   I've been to trivia nights, Shandy's nights (for a few minutes before i dash off to bed) and any time i try to turn on the stream to hear what piece of music the gang is raving about, i crash after a short time.  I don't seem to crash when Zayn is talking on the stream tho. Not sure why.
So for me, a radio station would probably not be any benifit =/
Also there's personal taste in music to consider.  All Medieval All The Time!!  FTW!!!

I like the idea!  I see two significant problems though: #1, as Chaffro said, the financial aspect. It costs $ to get a stream server capable of feeding 67 listeners (which is what Raglan Shire is capped at, I believe).  Add more to that if you want to feed it into the surrounding sims.
#2, as Awen said, there's the personal tastes in music to take into account.  I'll listen to alot of different stuff, but there are times that I'll turn off the stream because I don't like the song or style being played.  You're going to get this anyways though, so you kind of have to either go with a concensus, or work out time slots for "shows."  (3 to 5pm - style A.  5 to 7 - style B, and so on) and try to make everyone happy within reason.
#3, there will be people who you simply can not please.  No matter what you do, they'll be "hurt" or "offended" that you're not playing THEIR music whenever they happen to be on.  To these people, I offer a simple solution:  Don't listen.  It's just that simple.

I really do think it's a good idea, if we can overcome at least the financial aspect of it.  We can work out programming later.

we has stream for up to 100 people thats paid for that we use and can use for this for the Shire.

I like the idea but be aware that most of the time theres only a couple people on Raglan and the wharf area who may or may not be listening. During busy time of day you might have 5 to 10 ppl on the sim with the best times being before and after events when you can have 10 to 20 or more for a short time.
Right now during Medieval festivai, i have about 16 hours of various medieval music that also includes TIny voice radio leadins that im looping and not many people really listen even when theyre on the sim according to my stats. Its mostly there for extra ambience but its not unusual for 3 to 8 ppl at any given time to be on the sim and NOBODY has the stream on lol.

Still, idea has lotta potential.  Cheesy

If there were live radio I might turn in more often, but when it's just stream running, I usually have TV running in background instead. Especially when it comes to medieval music. It's great for ambiance for events, but it's not exactly what's on my iPod Smiley

This is exactly my problem, Catten. I don't think there's anyone else in the shire who listens to the stuff that I usually listen to.  I know there are some that listen to techno, ambient, and such (which I do), but I don't know of any who would really groove to whats on my USB keys in the jeep (no ipod, just an mp3 player built into my jeep stereo) and my playlists at home and work.

You might be surprised Copper!   Ninja
(not by me tho, I think I'd be on the other side of the spectrum... Wink)

On topic: streaming is turned off by default. I don't like the way you're haphazardly bombarded by very different kinds of music when you travel around. So I even often forget to turn it on at events!
I would listen to a show though, if I were in Raglan and I'd be reminded to turn the strem on  Whistle

at least during medieval month, I've found myself logging in just to listen to the stream and do homework, and possibly let people mess with my afk avatar Wink. I have no musical preference; I only listen to music while in SL.

I don't do well with background music.  I LOVE music, but I either like to focus on it or have it off so I can focus on what I'm doing.  So I'm one of those who may be on Raglan, but with the stream turned off.

I agree with the discussion about the choice of music.  It will vary greatly amongst us critters, so it will be hard to please, or come to concensus.

Fun idea, though!

Hmm . Well at least it's provoked a response.

I thinkl as with any radio station, there will be tunes played that you dont always like, and yes I accept that you can't please all the people all the time. But there would be nothing stopping us having different programmes for different type of music at regular times of the day/week. i do think though that it is possible to cater for most of the people most of the time, as long as there is variety.

If i knew how to post a poll here we could have a little looksey at the type of tunes that make each critter whistle??
