Hello! I would like some feedback on an idea and see if it sounds like fun to anyone. I like many here love to have fun and after the Raglan Commons Train Stress test, and a shot at the Giant Snail Races, my little grey cells started to shoot out in all directions! What about a tiny balloon race?
There are tiny balloons available that are easy to mod and fly, and because of the slow speed and small size of the craft one sim alone would be more than big enough. The ballon and basket can be retextured and modded to suit the pilots taste or left as is. The course itself could go all over the place, up and down, side to side, here and there! It could be as simple as flags or a system like the surfing game on the Galaxy sim.
A charity could be chosen and entry fees or donations could be taken. The balloons (Tiny Boomslang by Barney Boomslang) are free so the motivation for the pilots could be L$ prizes and trophies/gifts for fastest, slowest, most crashes best mod, a whole range of levels …or just 1st,2nd,and 3rd.
My social graces are almost as bad as my organizational skills, and I can really only mod what others have made, but if there is enough interest in this I will try my best to do what I am able to make it happen. I think its a great idea, and especially with the Tiny Olympics comming up!

So far so good....I have never done anything like this so any suggestions as to how to proceed owuld be great! LOL The Balloons hold 5 one driver and 4 passengers. I think the details I will try to work on are a couple of signs with note card givers explaining the idea and a freebie giver box for the balloons with a note on moding. The course I am at a loss on as I dont want to have anyone feel it is a tresspassbut that we can work on. Thanks so very much for the input so far, and keep it coming,...sounds like it is worth starting on anyway! :-)

I'm not sure how to figure out who has won etc. The course it self can IMO be on the entire raglan cluster - several sims equal more fun and bigger challenge.
I guess we could use the galaxy system again - I sure hope they fix the bug, cause if they don't, the events using it, might be troublesome. It would perhaps be better to think up a different sollution?

I too had thought about a cluster wide! For me the sim crossings are all a part of it but for some it is very scary,...and I hate to say it but ,...well sometimes Passengers are lost (crash)!! O.O The balloons are very stable though. I am just not sure how well the sims would react to multiple crossings at the same time. Don't know how such a ting could be tested. We could try a couple of test runs and see!!
I did run the surf course this weekend and am not sure of the bug, but lemme know the Jira and I'll give it a vote! The only problem I had was I am still trying to cut some of the turns too short and miss the gates! Without a system like the surfing the easiest way I can think of would be to have a large 10X10 brightly colored prim, with the gate number on it to mark the course. On collide the pilot would get a note card with a word, in it to complete a sentence. The sentence could be fashioned in such a way to make it where it would have all the words and be in the proper order to win. LOL...something as simple as a recipe for chocolate chip waffles would do! At the finish line the pilots could IM the judge and or judges with the correct response.
Thoughts?

I like the notecard idea - its much simpler and would work on multiple sims - The problem with the galaxy surf track right now, is that there is a delay in detected collisions. This causes gates to sometimes not register. Its not to bad when your only one surfing. it will not register 1 out of 10 times, but when a lot do it at the same time, you'll get a lot of checkpoints not registering a hit.
From what I can read on the Jira, there are also sometime cases where not hit is registered at all. I haven't noticed this my self though.
A search for collision on the jira sorted by latest updates should show at least 5 entries for different collision bugs happening after the 1.22.2 restart

I like the balloon race idea. One time I saw one IRL. It was a navigational race. The balloon had to come down near a target and drop a bean bag. The bean bag closest to the bulls eye won.

OOOH TAY!,...With A ton of help from Catten I have a test run, (with ballon dispenser!) set up above the train track. Anyone and everyone who wants to test it out give it a go! If it needs work please let me know and I will do my best, oh yeah,..the instructions for the balloon and the race are in the balloon vendor box. Have fun whatever ya find yourself doin!! ;-)

racerx said that the lindens said the giant snail race cannons would be fixed by this saturday. that's the collision detection, i believe.
we can always hope they actually do.....
