[Violet Faulds]

My friend is trying to get into SL, but she can't connect.  She's got a year old computer running Vista.  Her graphics "card" is the Intel 945G chipset.  I've been through the forums and all I see it the "Vista sux- the 945G isn't supported" versions of posts from 2007.

Does anyone have any tips, tricks, workarounds, or other ideas? (maybe opensource viewers?)

I have no experience with the intel graphics card under vista. In general I wouldn't run SL on any intel graphics cards, but your friend might try one of the unofficial sl viewers.

Cool viewer - Pretty "cool" with a lot of nice features - Eth had some crashes with this viewer though, so not sure if it will do the same with your friends computer: http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/

Imprudence viewer - They are making an 100% opensource SL viewer. Its a really nice project with a lot of promish, but still in an early development, so there are some bugs: http://imprudenceviewer.org

Violet, ask her to download and try "Snowglobe" from the secondlife downloads page. I had the same on this little lappy which is Intel GMA 950 and now it works.
