**** reposted from the front page

ETHERIA PARROTS 2nd ANNUAL WINTERFEST ICE SCULPTURE SCULPTY CONTEST!

In addition to the activities during the month long Winterfest celebration on the Shire, theres also a few fun contests that folks can get involved with. The first that we’ll post about today is the ICE SCULPTURE SCULPTY Contest put on by Etheria Parrott. She did this last year and it was great fun to see. So we’re doing it again! Cheesy

****Ice Sculpture Sculpty Contest 2008 ****
The idea for this contest is to encourage people to learn how to make sculpties. There are many programmes you could use or learn to use. Some are even free so check out http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sculpted_Prims:_3d_Software_Guide

Prizes
1st place 1000 lindens
2nd place 500 lindens
3rd place 250 lindens

Winners will be announced on 20th December at noon PST. Until then everyone will be invited to vote for their favourites. We will explain later how everyone will be able to vote.

When choosing your faves, please take into account:

Judging criteria:
1. Awesomeness 2. Iciness  3. Artistic merit

Rules
1. You must ‘buy’ one of the 20 bases laid out at the Ice Sculpture area for this purpose for 25 lindens before you put out your ice sculpty. In buying the base, you commit to entering the contest. This is your entry fee. If you don’t enter, then you have denied someone else the chance because there is limited space for bases.

2. Your sculpty sculpture must fit entirely within the 3 metre x 3 metre base, with a max height of 5m.

3. Your sculpture must be 5 prims or less (the base is NOT included in this count)

4. Your sculptie sculpture must be yours and all parts entirely created by you.

5. There must be no rotating or moving parts - static sculptures only

5.  Your ice sculptie scupture *must* look like ICE

Anyone not working within these rules will have their entry returned and their entry fee will not be returned.

Note: Those of you not in the Artisans group will need to contact Catten Carter to be added to the group on a temporary basis. After the contest is over, it will be necessary to eject you from that group. Don’t take it personally. We still love you Smiley

Another note: There are some examples of last year’s entries on show in the museum on the Raglan Commons  sim which is located north of Raglan Shire

If you have any questions, contact Etheria!

Etheria and myself and any of the other memebers of the Raglan Events and Activities group can also add folks to the artisans group temporarily as well while cattens gone.

Bo put masses of time and research into working out a voting system. Thanks Bo it's much appreciated  Smiley
Angel Now don't hit me but I found this today Whistle http://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=992910

It strikes me that people passing through might be more likely to vote if they could actually click on something in world. Especially as people love clicking on things and voting is irresistable to some.

Since I plan for the contest to run every year and have funds that need disposing of, I would be happy to buy one or two of these boards for the shire. A big advantage is that competitors can also add their own name and pictures thus cutting down the monitoring and work by the organisers. It takes 20 entrants and can be customised by texture for any contest.

What do you think guys?

Hit her!

Actually, I do quite like that board thingy. Might be useful for other contests too. I'm sure we can come up with some other competition ideas that it could be used for.

Hehehe no silly  Wink, this looks like the ultimate solution!
You can place it on the grounds, right where the competition takes place!

And I'm willing to chip in, just because the competition is your idea, it doesn't mean you have to pay for it all by yourself Ethy  Smiley

(Btw... don't we have scripters who can do this just as good, or maybe better? It's a pity we're pressed for time now, but why don't we buy one or two of these and then see if we can come up with a more flexible (=copy, more contestants possible) system  Cool)

I bought one to test but I'm not sure now. It's a very simple board to use but it ony registers one vote per avatar either for the entire contest or one vote per day per avatar. I was envisaging people being able to vote 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. That helps people to feel better if they find it hard to choose between a few they like best.

I had a chat with Zayn. He reminded me that we had wanted to direct people to our blog to raise awareness of what else goes on in the shires and publicise tinyhood.

People are IMing me a lot asking when they should have their sculptures out by and also when the voting will start and how will they be able to vote. I would like to post a notice before the end of Sunday UK time to give these answers. as there are only 2 weeks left til the closing date.

Our scripters are very busy doing *STUFF*

Yes!
(I've already implemented it and it's waiting to be used!)

I'l mail you both, Etheria and Zayn, with instructions how to do it, and I'll do that today.
This way, you can run the contests all by yourselves  Cheesy

Oh, and don't try this at home... http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=18b_1228512362
